Revolutionary Mobile Portal Platform Launched at Mobile Internet Exhibition

Mobile Internet 2000 - Paris, October 3, 2000 – A revolutionary mobile portal platform, which delivers personalised Internet content and services to any mobile device, is launched today at the Mobile Internet 2000 conference and exhibition in Paris by PassCall Advanced Technologies.

PassCall’s GateWave 2.0 delivers existing Internet content to any cellular subscriber, without the need to modify the site. GateWave 2.0 was developed in response to the booming demand for valuable Web content and services via mobile devices.

GateWave 2.0 provides service providers with a solid yet versatile infrastructure for managing and supporting mobile Internet portals. It is the only fully operational and commercial solution which supports both voice and text navigation, and has been adopted by CyberPlus, a systems provider for mobile Internet Commerce security in China. Israel Motorola subsidiary MIRS have also been using this technology since 1999.

GateWave 2.0’s rich set of features and capabilities include the following:

  • Intelligent Transformation
GateWave 2.0 is capable of transforming Internet content, marked up in HTML, into content suitable for display on mobile devices (WML, cHTML, HDML). Using a rich internal XML format, Intelligent Transformation analyses and transforms the HTML-based Internet content to the specific markup language and display capabilities of each mobile device.
  • Adaptability to Mobile Standards
GateWave 2.0’s automatic adaptation capabilities ensure full compatibility with various markup languages, mobile devices and WAP gateways.
  • Mobile Devices
GateWave 2.0 automatically recognises the end-user’s mobile device and formats the intelligently transformed web pages to screen-size portions that match the display capabilities of the particular mobile device.
  • Voice Browsing
Instead of viewing the Internet content on their handset displays, end-users hear the optimised Internet content transmitted to their telephones. GateWave 2.0’s voice browsing functionality is based on Voice XML, which is the markup language specifically designed for speech-based telephony applications.
  • Caching
GateWave 2.0’s internal cache memory is optimised to avoid unnecessary Internet access, while ensuring that all information is constantly up-to-date.
  • Personalisation
End-users are offered the ability to log on with username and password to access their personalised Internet sites from their mobile devices. GateWave also enables end-users to customize personal portals.
  • Portal Manager
Portal Manager is a user-friendly tool for creating and maintaining mobile portals. It handles all portal management activities, such as adding, arranging, removing and renaming mobile applications and services.
  • Traffic Analyser
GateWave 2.0 offers several reports that enable distinguishing end-user preferences and the relative popularity of specific websites.

“Mobile Internet is top of the agenda for communications companies at the moment”, commented Frans van Belle, CEO PassCall Advanced Technologies. “After the initial hype of WAP, consumers have become disillusioned with the lack of compelling content available via their mobile devices. We see GateWave 2.0 as the catalyst transforming WAP from hype to reality by taking easy-to-read personalised web content straight to mobile devices.”
